Floating Solar

Renewable Microgrids For Remote Islands

Discover the innovative Canopy Power X Ocean Sun floating solar system solution for remote islands and island resorts to generate renewable electricity and to collect rainwater all at once. Island based businesses can reduce costs, overcome energy constraints, and contribute to a greener future.

What is unique about the Canopy Power X Ocean Sun solution?

Remote islands and island resorts have specific challenges, such as land scarcity, solar panel performance with excessive heat, environmental impact and water scarcity.

To solve these challenges, Canopy Power has partnered with an innovative floating solar system provider, Ocean Sun, to offer a high performing, end-to-end floating solar system solution which can natively collect rainwater.

Canopy Power has selected the Ocean Sun floating solar system, as it is the most robust, cost effective, certified, high yield and warrantable solution on the market.

The value proposition for remote island-based businesses:

  • Low CAPEX

  • High efficiency water cooled solar panels

  • Robust and seaworthy in salt water, waves and currents

  • Fast and easy installation

  • Easy transportation

  • Added bonus: Rainwater collection

Benefits & Features:

Ocean Sun floating solar panels are at the core of our floating solar system. They have the following characteristics:

  • Ocean Sun’s patented technology

  • A buoyancy ring covered by a reinforced membrane, used to float customized PV modules

  • 75m diameter ring

  • Capacity of 680 kWp

  • Surface of 4,415 m2 to collect rainwater

  • Bilge pumps integrated to the ring

  • Multiple rings can be cascaded to generate the amount of energy needed

What output can you expect?

The solar energy generated and the rainwater collected varies based on the geographic location.

As an example, with one Ocean Sun 75m floating ring, the theoretical yearly electricity and water generation are 900 MWh of solar electricity per year and 8 million liters of water per year in Fiji.

In the Bahamas on the other hand, it would be 1,200 MWh of solar electricity per year and 4 million liter of water per year.

Our team of experts will give you clear indications of what you can expect from the system based on your location and environment.
